2025 Heart for Georgia Veterans Award - Jim Lindenmayer

Jim Grew up on a farm in northern New York State and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1980 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army and served with the Armored Cavalry branch of Combat Arms, where he held various command and staff positions at both Troop and Squadron levels. Jim Resigned from his active duty commission and then went into the Reserves until I was discharged in 1989.


Jim worked as a major account executive in the manufacturing, retail, and healthcare sectors for several large IT outsourcing companies and retired in 2014. Upon retirement, Jim founded and became the director of the Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program, where we celebrated our 10th anniversary on Veterans Day 2024.

We are actively engaged in building a Transitional Veterans Shelter in Cherokee County that will serve Veterans across North Ga. We are also involved in several Veteran mental health initiatives that target Homeless and non-homeless Veterans with mental health issues.


The Georgia Veterans Network is honored to recognize Jim Lindenmayer as an inaugural Heart for Georgia Veterans award recipient.

Jim is married to my loving and supportive wife, Margo, of 38 years.


CIVIC AND SERVICE AGENCIES:

  • Board member Georgia Home Trust for Homelessness 2021 to Present – appointed by Governor Kemp

  • Member Georgia Department of Community Affairs Balance of State (BOS) homeless committee representing rural veterans from 152 of the 159 counties

  • 2021 Awarded Cherokee First Citizen honor by Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce

  • Committee Chairman for design/funding/Installation/Dedication of the Nation’s first and only Homeless Veteran Monument that was dedicated on January 25, 2019, at Cherokee Veterans Park

  • 30+ year member of the American Legion

  • Founder and Director of Cherokee County Homeless Veterans program

  • 2015 Program provided National Recognition for the State of Georgia Homeless Program by the American Legion National Commander

  • 2016 Service award from Marine Corps League Woodstock

  • 2018 DAR Volunteer program of the year award

  • 2018 VA Recognition for Service

  • Cherokee County Veteran Home Repair Consortium founding member

  • 2016-Present With Veteran Home Repair, we have done over 60 veteran projects since program started. The Team did the design/build/installation for the Vietnam Traveling wall program in Blue Ridge, GA

  • Board Member Cherokee FOCUS – County non-profit board since 2018 – Sets and approves FOCUS yearly programs

  • Member Cherokee County Suicide Coalition – Veteran team leader
